The Art of Hydration

At this point, we all know about the importance of hydration and its effects on our skin health, vitality and radiance but… are we hydrating correctly? Especially as women, our water requirements may change across our cycle. If we are not adding the correct amount of electrolytes and keeping the mineral balance, we may be feeling more bloated and holding onto more water than we actually want to.
In order to understand how to hydrate our cells, we need to understand mineral balance. So we have four macro minerals in our body: calcium, magnesium, potassium and sodium. Traditionally, our diets evolved with more amounts of potassium and magnesium present in them, but nowadays, due to the amount of processed foods and the lack of minerals on the soil we have a higher consumption of calcium and sodium.
When there is a higher amount of sodium and calcium inside the cells, it makes the cell membrane rigid, and when this happens our body starts to become acidic, which means waste products can not come out and the necessary nutrients can not get into the cells easily. Maybe this is why you are feeling puffy after drinking those two liters of water, the skin is not as plump, and you are not as energetic. We need to bring back magnesium and potassium into the cells so they become alkaline, and we can get the waste products outside of the cells and all the nutrients in.
