Lately I have been transitioning to a period of deep sensuality, a period in which all my senses have been awakened and the tiniest caresses from nature are felt very deeply in my body...

The other day, after finishing a long meditation I realized how deep I was able to experience every detail, every colour, every texture much more deliciously, and the mundane started to feel more in tune with the divine.

When we start to live deliciously as women, we start to surrender to the present moment and we can see our reality, our daily routine and the day to day with other eyes. Everything becomes clearer, more vivid, more exciting, more joyful and full of life.

I remember when I was undergoing big periods of stress previously in my life, always rushing, always thinking of what I have to do, always feeling like I am not enough. My muscles were feeling stiff, my thoughts constantly ruminating, and life was feeling plain... Day by day the same, lack of excitement, lack of joy and juicy and delicious experiences. Slowly, I started to tap into my senses… First, calming my mind through meditation, and then, incorporating mindfulness and presence into my daily routine. At the end, I realized I can live everyday with excitement, deliciously without constantly "waiting" for a special moment to happen in my life.

Today, I would like to share with you simple ways in which you can bring awareness into your everyday routine, activating your senses to embrace your essence, your femininity. We will be exploring different ways in which you can awaken your sight, touch, smell, taste, and hearing.

  1. Sight

As I started to bring more tranquility into my life, I realized how much I am drawn to beauty, to symmetry and aesthetics. I can get lost witnessing the beauty of nature, or the beauty in my surroundings. As I have been constantly traveling for the past 4 years, I find myself looking for beauty and appreciating the difference among cultures, architecture, rituals and daily life everywhere I go. To awaken your sight, you can…

  • Paint, draw, do pottery... involve yourself into any kind of visual art in which you can turn your thoughts into reality.

  • Spend some time watching and witnessing a piece of art, whether it is a sculpture, a painting.

  • Visiting a museum, or a nice boutique cafe, which brings novelty to your surroundings, and you can appreciate different decorations, colour textures.

  •  Go for a long walk in nature, in which you pay attention to the different trees, textures, birds, colour, etc.

  1. Touch

Allowing myself to experience tender touch from myself. Oiling my body with high quality and delightful natural oils such as almond, rosehip, coconut or argan. Making the process intentional, feeling the softness of my skin. I also find myself enjoying natural fabrics: linen, silk, cotton. Indulging into soft bedsheets, caressing flowers and plants, and feeling the textures of the leaves and petals.

  1. Smell

To delight ourselves in the sense of smell… I like to indulge in a good perfume, or a perfume from many years ago that can bring back memories from my childhood, my home city, my country and culture overall. I also like to smell more vibrant, more luxurious, exotic fragrances which allow me to enter into a frequency of abundance. But also, going back to nature, taking a walk by the sea and letting my skin be caressed by the ocean breeze and smell that salty, fresh breeze.

You can also…

  • Go for a walk in the forest, awaken your sense of smell by tuning into the smell of earth, wood, mud.

  • Lightening a candle with a scent that you are not familiar with, or an incense stick

  • Cook a delicious meal with spices which are your favorites

  • Go to a local market and be curious about different spices

  • Take some extra time to savour your tea or coffee. Taking a few deep breaths before taking your first sip.

    4. Taste

Awakening our sense of taste can really improve our relationship with food. It can lead us away from overeating, and improve our digestion. Tapping into our bodies before choosing each meal, asking what our body is craving for, not from gluttony or indulgence but from what our body is needing in order to have the best energy levels.

Taking time to savor, making a pause before our first bite, taking a few deep breaths and taking the time to salivate, chew and savor. When we take the time to enjoy our meals, they become more nutritious, easier to digest, and it is also a way of honouring ourselves and our bodies.

  1. Listening

Allow yourself to listen to a piece of music that you love. Bring your full attention to those 4 or 5 minutes, notice the change of melody, the harmony in the notes. You can also go for a long walk and listen to the sounds of nature, the sound of the leaves being caressed by the wind, the ocean waves, the songs of birds. Or maybe you live in a city with many cultures, and you start to bring more awareness to the languages that are spoken: notice the different sounds, the different vowels, the different tones. Be fully present in conversations, and choose to listen to ideas, music, nature sounds that nourish and uplift your soul.

I hope you can start incorporating a few of these habits to bring more awareness into your senses slowly. Tapping into our senses is the key to unfold our sensuality, bringing more calm to our nervous system and come back to our yin, feminine essence.
